ME-Newsletter-February26

Many of you will be looking forward to a well-deserved half-term break. If you are one of the lucky ones, make sure you take time to pause and step back, ...

In this issue, I am inviting you all to reflect on an issue that has been bothering me for a while: the inconsistent pedagogical quality of teachers' professional learning. Isn't it a paradox? Especially, when we, as educators hold ourselves to such high standards in the classroom.

#1: The Onboarding Gap

Too often, when teachers step into a a new curriculum (the IB framework, for instance), they are expected to “find their feet” with minimal structured guidance. And yet, we would never expect students to thrive without first understanding their starting point, modelling expectations or providing scaffolded support. So why do we expect it of teachers. Why does our pedagogy not always extend to our own professional learning?

I want to understand this better. For this, I need your help!

I have created a very short questionnaire (it takes just a couple of minutes) to hear about the type of support you received when you first started working as an IB teacher.

I would greatly value your insight. Thank you in advance for your time.

#2: Course Registration Now Open

Preparing for IB Teaching: A 6-Week Blitz Starter Kit

In response to these persistent onboarding gaps, and drawing on over 15 years' of IB teaching experience, I designed a flexible, high-impact online programme specifically for teachers transitioning into IB schools.

By the end of the six weeks, you will not only understand what IB teaching is about, you will also feel equipped to apply its principles with confidence and purpose.

If you are preparing to start in an IB school or you are in your first year and want greater clarity and structure, this intensive course offers the guided foundation many teachers say they wish they had at the beginning.

Registration is now open for the spring cohort, beginning 30th March. Click the button above to find out more.

In two focused hours, you will:

  • Explore the anatomy of a strong Statement of Inquiry

  • Clarify the conceptual foundations that sit beneath the wording

  • Analyse real examples across subject areas

  • Identify common design errors and how to fix them

This session is particularly suited to:

  • MYP teachers new to unit planning

  • Coordinators supporting quality assurance

  • Subject leaders seeking greater conceptual coherence

You will leave with a repeatable process you can use confidently and a stronger approach to unit design.

Secure Your Spot!

This will be a hands-on, interactive session so places are limited. A fee applies to ensure commitment and protect the quality of learning.

Join the waiting list by 1st March to be the first to receive full details and to help shape the session around your real challenges and priorities.

That is all for now. Whether you are enjoying a half-term pause, celebrating carnival or powering through the classroom, I hope you can find some time to pause and reflect.

And if you need support, I am here to help.

Kind regards,

Carmen
