Dear Mestralia Community,

January sets the tone for the year ahead and for many IB educators, it can quickly feel full before it even begins.

Research into effective professional learning is clear: meaningful impact comes from focusing deliberately on what matters most. This month, I invite you to begin 2026 with intentional practice, refining your teaching with clarity, purpose, and confidence.

In our last newsletter, many of you took time to pause and reflect using my Reset Journal. Reflection creates awareness. Intentional practice is what helps us decide what to do with that awareness.

Intentional practice is not about adding more to an already full workload. It is about making conscious, professional choices:

• choosing one aspect of your practice to refine

• focusing your energy where it will have the greatest impact

• giving yourself permission to let the rest wait

Research on effective professional learning is consistent: sustained improvement comes from deliberate, focused attention over time, not from trying to fix everything at once.

You might like to pause for a moment and consider:

What is one element of my teaching practice that, if approached more intentionally this term, could make the greatest difference for my students (or for my own wellbeing)?

There is no need to act on everything you notice. One clear intention is enough. If it feels helpful, choose just one lesson, routine, or professional decision this week and approach it with that intention in mind. Observe what shifts, not to judge yourself, but to learn.
